Member Awareness: Online Banking
When your application for online banking is approved, you may use a personal computer to access your accounts. You will need access to the Internet (World Wide Web). For your added protection, you will need to log on using your PASSWORD that you have selected along with your Username. You are responsible for your installation, maintenance, and operation of your computer and software. The credit union will not be responsible for any errors or failures involving any telephone service, Internet service provider, your software installation, or your computer. Refer to Regulation E Disclosure.
We do not recommend the use of a public computer when logging in to your online banking account, but if you choose to use one, it is recommended that you completely log off of your account before leaving the public computer. Also, public computers may contain viruses and malware that may allow others to acquire your confidential account information.
The credit union will contact you only once regarding your initial online banking registration process. At no other time will the credit union contact you requesting any confidential account information. Never give out your personal information; i.e. social security, account number, passwords, birth date to anyone unless you have initiated the call.
To mitigate risk, CU Hawaii’s online banking system enforces multi-factor authentication, which includes the use of a strong password and authentication code. You may also set up automatic balance alerts on your account. Also, your online banking session will time out if left unattended. It is highly recommended that you use a reliable antivirus software program on your computer and follow these safe computing tips.
Safe Computing Tips:
- If you are using a public computer NEVER walk away before completely logging off.
- Never give out your personal information such as your social security number, account numbers, passwords, or birth date; unless you have initiated the call. CU Hawaii will NEVER ask you for your personal information, we already have it.
- Use a reliable antivirus program on your computer. Ensure that all necessary security “patches” and updates are in place.
- Do not download unknown or unsolicited programs to your computer. These can harbor behind-the-scenes computer viruses or open a “back door” giving others access to your computer without your knowledge.
- Do not send sensitive information in an email. Email is not a secure method of communication. Never include your account number or passwords in an email. Call CU Hawaii if you need assistance regarding your account.
- Make backup copies of files or data you are not willing to lose – and store the copies very securely.
If you see any suspicious account activity, call CU Hawaii immediately at 808-933-6700 or 1-800-933-6706. All CU Hawaii contact information is located on our Contact Us page.
If you have a business account that is accessed by multiple individuals, we recommend that you perform periodic checks of your account (statement monitoring, limiting the amount of authorized users on the account, etc.).
Member Awareness: Mobile Banking
Be aware that Malware is a major threat to mobile devices with few antivirus options. Users of Mobile Banking should be aware that downloading applications of unknown or suspect origin could compromise their mobile device login credentials. Malware infection can also occur when a user attempts to unlock or “jail break” their device.
